Typography wrapup
We've seen a lot of words being thrown around here: x-height, kerning, leading, ems, and so on. Many of these terms will come up in our discussion of how to apply these concepts to the web, but under slightly different words.
Are these guidelines neutral?
No, most definitely not. They are always already inscribed in particular cultural formations and reflect given cultural, social, and political currents—and can be modified, bent, and/or broken for specific effects. Take two examples:
"Joseph Müller Brockman 1955 design in the series for concert posters for the Tonhalle Gesellschaft Zürich. This is one of the first posters in a series that he designed for the Tonhalle Gesellschaft Zürich that truly exemplified the New Graphic Design approach. It was like a design tsunami sweeping over the international graphic design community."
