One thing to note...
There are a lot of things that we will not have time to cover today that involve how to use "proper" quotes, dashes, and ellipses on the web. What we mean here is converting quotes to opening (“) and closing (”) quotes, taking a double dash (--) and turning it into an em-dash (—), and so on. There are tools that you can use, such as the excellent Smarty Pants plugin that has been ported to PHP to make these conversions automatically.
For this section we are relying heavily on the Elements of Typographic Style Applied to the Web.
